What is the deal with the Big 12?

The big 12 is getting interesting. Lets take a look at the top half of this disfunctional family.

  • Kansas one week ago has zero losses. Then drops three straight.
  • Oklahoma St. becomes top dog and then takes a terrible loss against Nebraska
  • Texas Tech drops 3 games behind Kansas twice and now is only one back
  • Oklahoma drops 3 in a row to fall 4 back in the race and now is one back
  • Iowa St. gets a huge win at Kansas and then gets blown out at Texas A&M
  • Texas gets the easy wins, but can't win against the big dogs in conference (other than Oklahoma St.)

With the sudden parity at the top of the Big 12, who has the inside track at the title.

You still have to like Oklahoma St and Kansas for the regular season title. The big show down is Sunday at Kansas. Even though Kansas is reeling you have to take them at home over Oklahoma St. I believe Simien is going to have a monster game and win by double digits.

Being an Illini Alum, I do take pleasure in Self's team self destructing right before the tournament begins, but they will right the ship. After Oklahoma St., Kansas has a couple of cream puffs in Kansas St. and @Missouri. Beware if Kansas does lose. Who knows where they will bottom out at that point?

If Kansas and Oklahoma St. both fall, you have Oklahoma and Texas Tech waiting in the wings with a season finale against one another. The winner of that matchup will have a chance for a 3-way tie for the conference crown. With the game being at Texas Tech coupled with the way Texas Tech is playing lately you have to think they will the showdown.

Final projected standings:

  1. Kansas (13-3)
  2. Oklahoma St.(12-4)
  3. Texas Tech (12-4)
  4. Oklahoma (11-5)
  5. Iowa St. (9-7)
  6. Texas (8-8)
